Bus Stop Evaluation Program: #98 Chesterfield Hanley and #174X Halls Ferry Express

The MetroBus stop evaluation program continues with the #98 Chesterfield Hanley and the #174X Halls Ferry Express.

Please note: These routes are not being eliminated, but your feedback on specific stops is encouraged and greatly appreciated. Below is the new list of proposed bus stops under consideration for removal from the following routes:

 #98 Chesterfield Hanley

 #174X Halls Ferry Express

 These stops are being proposed for elimination as part of Metro’s Bus Stop Evaluation Program to make the system more efficient, faster and allow for more improvements to existing bus stops.

    Please leave the following stop for these reasons.

    Route 174X North Riverview Blvd at Eton Lane Position:NS
    - I personally know several riders that have to walk more than 4 to 5 blocks after deboarding at this bus stop. After the stop was removed between Eton and the North Point community FS (near Gladys), many riders that rode the bus in past times now take a total of 2 or more modes of transportation to get to their destination due to disabilities and lack of direct transportation to their desired destination. In fact, some with disabilities just retired because they could not get to work and back home within a reasonable time. The disabled tried Call-A-Ride but were dissatisfied with the service and stopped taking it.

    If you wish to discuss this matter with me, I am in the Payroll Department. I ride this bus as well as the #41 and #90. Many of my friends are now sitting home looking out of their window instead of standing with me.

    I just started working at Metro recently and get questions from people who are not happy about their bus stop being eliminated. Where should I direct them?

      Pam, honestly the best place is Customer Service, customerservice@metrostlouis.org, or let them comment here as well. There are several people that handle the bus stop program, depending on the route. They can call or leave an email, and tell them to please request that it get forwarded to the planning department for review. Thanks for your proactive help for customers!

    I, as well as others, have expressed on several occasions how the elimination of bus stops to so-call streamline the bus system could possibly affect the elderly and handicapped, and also have a negative impact on ridership. It seems when your ordinary Joe or Jill have previously raised these issues with Metro, they were pretty much laughed at. Now that members of your staff have voiced their concerns, these issues suddenly becomme worthy of looking into.

    I totally agree to removing stops which are considered hazardous and poses safety issues. But to remove stops just because Metro doesn’t deem them to be important is unfair to the individuals who rely on them, because in some way or another, whether the user is an elderly resident, handicapped, a parent toting young childern, or if the individual is just a plain average everyday Joe or Jill, these stops are important.

    Also, has Metro ever consider that streamlining works only as well as other elements i.e. traffick, weather, unexpected detours and etc. would allow it to work?

    Just thought I give your staff something to sit around the table and drink coffee to and laugh about. But if Metro wants something to laugh about, laugh at the bus system they operate because it is a real joke, especially for those, like me who don’t have to rely on it. But it is not a joke for those who do.

      Mike, I have an entire list, not complete yet but working, of stops that were proposed for elimination and were saved or restored due to customer feedback either here, via phone, email or letter. By no means is this considered a laughing matter. When the program is completed, I will print the complete list of kept stops, and we do contact riders individually regarding their concerns or in the comment section. Only 10% of the stops were evaluated, and many were kept or moved due to passenger feedback. Sheila is providing, as customers have throughout this process, valuable information that planners need to keep stops when possible and necessary.

    The #98 can become the #158. The #158 is absolutely not needed because you have the #98 and the #258 covering nearly the same area. The #98 can go to Maryville Univ. then on to St Lukes, then on to Delmar Gardens, then back to Ballas Center. The #258 can also cover Maryville University.

    You need the northbound #98 to connect with Hanley Station and the airport.

      Virginia, due to traffic and that the #98 can be late we do not want to have this bus combined with any other route. This bus is funded by a federal grant, and we have to keep the route by itself for reporting miles and hours. Hope this helps answer your question.
