One great thing about St. Louis is the availability of cultural events for a very low cost. The new season at the Muny opens on Monday with the musical “42nd Street.” (You probably know the song “We’re in the Money.”) It looks like the Muny has a great lineup this season, including “Annie” and “Meet Me in St. Louis.”
The Muny is a great place for a cheap date because it costs very little to attend. Of course, you can always buy tickets at the box office, but there are 1,500 free seats for each performance for those serious penny-pinchers. Even better, the Muny lets you bring in your own food & drinks (though nothing “stinky,” “crinkly,” or alcoholic).
Best of all, you can reach the Muny via public transit. This year the Muny is running its own shuttle service from the Forest Park MetroLink station. You can also ride the “Muny Express” from St. Clair County or from Madison County Transit. Information about accessing the Muny from public transit here. I love to pack some good bread, cheese, fruit, olives, and sparkling fruit juice and head to the Muny via MetroLink for a romantic (and cheap!) night under the stars, being entertained by some of the most beloved Broadway shows.
