Hear that Whistle Blow! Union Pacific’s Steam Locomotive Will Tour Through St. Louis

Thanks in part to the enthusiasm and support of St. Louis and Missouri voters, the Little Rock Express edged the Tuscola Turn by 3,042 online votes to win Union Pacific Railroad’s Great Excursion Adventure “You Route the Steam Contest.” Union Pacific will now route one of its historic steam locomotives from Kansas City, through St. Louis and on to Little Rock, Arkansas through eastern Missouri.

Union Pacific’s steam locomotives are giant, powerful machines, and very popular among train enthusiasts of all ages.  When the locomotive tours St. Louis, we will provide readers with all the information on how to go and see the train.  It is a fine nod to St. Louis previous history as a large and very busy railroad hub as the gateway to the West.

    Hoo boy, this is gonna be good! Obviously it would have been even better if it was the Big Boy (No. 3985-a example, I believe, of which is at the Transport Museum on Barrett Station; huge machine), but I’ll take “working” locomotive any time. Oh, and squeeeeeeeee! STEAM LOCOMOTIVE! Keep us posted, don’t want to miss this.

    Correction: the Challenger class (No. 3985) is not a Big Boy locomotive. It is slightly smaller than the Big Boy. However, there is an example of a Big Boy class at the Transport Museum.

    Looking forward to this experience. Rail travel has always been exciting to me. Traveled by train as a child and plan to take my granddaughter on a rail trip this summer. Thanks for the info. Toot! Toot!
