Restoration 2010: We Need Your Input

Starting last Wednesday morning, just hours after St. Louis County voters approved Proposition A, we started receiving calls about service restoration. Not surprisingly, many people who have lost service, sometimes even entire bus routes, are very interested in how Metro intends to keep up our promise to restore service.

So we need your input. Starting on Friday, Metro’s planning department will be unveiling a schedule of proposed service enhancements.  We need your input to help determine the social, environmental and economic impact of the proposed changes. Every proposed change will be documented on the website for our long-range plan, Moving Transit Forward, and on Nextstop so you can continue the discussion.

In the meantime, you can tell us what you’d like to happen. Email comments/suggestions to: restoration2010@metrostlouis.org or leave a message at (314) 982-1400 ext. 3433.

The deadline for comments is close of business, Monday, May 10, 2010.

Metro will also host a series of informational public meetings to introduce proposed changes and solicit feedback. Please consider attending one of the following meetings:

    I’ll echo fewer bus stops, but with better amenities. If there’s a bus stop shelter one block away people will happily walk to it. There’s no reason for there to be bus stops on every block.

    how about letting people know on the website that you can use a credit card at some stations and that in the future you can use one at all stations.

    also, i’m in favor of fewer stops for buses as well. and perhaps at big intersections for buses we have tvm’s, on an option at metrolink stations to buy only bus fare so that you can buy tickets before you get on board. have them at a few places downtown, clayton, you get the idea.

    Courtney – I agree with other readers. Metro planning team should consider fewer stops on some routes. that makes lot of sense and maybe can attract more riders.

    also, this may be wishful thinking nevertheless i am going to put them forth. do u think you will be able to install a bike rack in forest park and at least a recycle paper bin in one of the stations – forest park or central west end?

    I am extremely happy transit’s bid was passed. The BIGGEST route I want restored is the 32 Wellston. Please allow it to go past 270. I work at Allied Waste which is at the corner of Taussig and St Charles Rk Rd. I currently ride the 34 Mills/Harrah and I hate that bus. Its TOO over crowded and I hat it when people have to stand(including me at times)while the bus rides the highway. That is a major safety issue to me. The bus doesn’t have seatbelts for all the passengers. Anyway I am begging, please restore the 32. I promise you I’m not the only one.

    Thank you, St. Louis County, for passing this tax increase! I would love to see the #56 bus from Webster Groves to St. Louis Community College at Meramec restored. This fall we will have two students at Meramec, and both want to ride the bus, rather than driving.

    The #99 downtown circulator, would be better if it was re-routed to major points that the residents and tourist go to. And I hope the BRT would be used on city streets instead highways. One more thing, I get lots of visitor and local who have questions concerning locating signage, direction of route, and points of interest located at them.

      Thanks for the feedback! The #99 will have some rerouting and marketing changes. Part of the change will incorporate the City Museum to allow more local and out-of-town tourists to access CM by transit. We’ve heard a lot about the signage issue with the route too, and hope to improve it to incorporate all the great shopping, restaurants, hotels, etc. along the way.

    With 32, you guys should make it run every 15mins. I had the displeasure of being on it at 4:50/5:00ish and it was too crowded. People standing everywhere. 94 gets like that too. Or you could just cut the buses in half and have them be called something different. Maybe have 32 end at Rock Road. All I know is that there are just too many people on there.

      The #32 will end now at Rock Road station, and extending service will be on the new #35 Rock Road Mills.

    After reviewing your brochure, I notice that metro bus for West County has been omitted for review. I currently live in West County and our bus service is very limited. 194 Page Limited only runs four times in the morning and the evening. 33 Dorsett Lackland does not run on Sunday. This creates a problem for me because I would like to attend church.

    I was informed that the 33 Lackland bus was rerouted after it didn’t pass last year . Please consider adding a Sunday bus and rerouteing this bus back to the previous schuedule.

    What is in store for the #56 Kirkwood Webster? I hope they are going to expand it to the Museum of Transport again. But the #49 Lindbergh split at the Ballas Transit Center is just plain stupid! We got in trouble with the voters for that the last time it was done. It was either a missed connection or crossing Dangerous Clayton Road! I am glad that the #99 will serve the City Museum. The CM is a very hot place for tourism. There is even a theatre organ in there.

    I do want to congradulate the Planning staff for buying Chevrolet Kodiak 4500s for Call-a-Ride. A 6.6 liter Duromax engine is much stronger than a 6.0 liter Powerstroke. They have tilt hoods and evaproator core and condensor for the air conditioner are right where they should be. They even have overload springs. Just like on the Gilligs. The Fords have regular springs and if you don’t opt for the overload springs for your van when it comes to severe service work, you are sking for trouble.
